Its not all tool buying you know, sometimes I actually do make something.

My ongoing project at the moment is fitted wardrobes in our bedroom, this is coming along fine but not ready for public viewing yet.

In addition to the fitted wardrobes I have been instructed by HID's to make new bedside cabinets and a dressing table, all in cherry to match the wardrobes. Knowing my position in the household and how far down the ladder I am, I took her design and started to put wood together.

This is the result:

Haven't managed to put the drawer handles on yet , its still going through the oiling stage.

Its a while since I did handcut dovetails, but they seem to havre worked out ok, not I might add up to the standard of Rob Cosman

I have started the second one and this is where I am with it

Waka,
Nice work! I particularly like the contrasting plugs (don't know what the correct term is), and the handcut dovetails seem to have come out pretty well too.

Malc :D

Looking very nice, Waka - have the new planes been used on any of this project?

Oh very nice Waka. Are those plugs or dowels? Interested to hear the process if dowels? Jig?

I like the style

But not the base, it just doesn't look right, the curve on top of the base isn't in line/tune with the rest of it

(but that is just my opinion)

Fraid not, they only made it to the workshop today, although they'll be used on the other one.

They are Indonesian Rosewood plugs, I wasn't sure that it would go with the cherry, but it seems to.

You could well be right about the base, I wasn't really sure wether to have the front and sides straight to the floor. Maybe if I'd matched the bottom curves with the same on the top it might be a little more pleasing.

Thanks for all your comments, I do like it when people are honest with their feedback, it tends to make you think more during the planning stage.

Hi Waka

Like them a lot.

The only comment i'd have relates to the back panels - the rails/stiles are the same dimensions, but when you have added the bottom shelf into the cabinet, the dimensions of the rails/stiles don't match. Looks odd to the eye.

But I suppose that when they're fille with books, it won't really matter !

Cheers

Karl
