I was knelt on the floor cutting mortices on the legs of the bench I'm making and hook my eye off the work for a second...
6 stitches, I went to the bone in my knee. Having just honed my 5/8 ths chisel it was rather sharp !
I've been a carpenter for 20 years and should have known better !

Yep you should of known better...

....another 5 minutes sharpening and you'd of got through that bone. :-0

Seriously hope your better soon.

Bet you don't do it again though

Just as well it was sharp - hurts even more when it's blunt - don't ask how I know

Same thing happened to 1 of my employees. Slipped with a Stanley knife. Took the side of his thumb off. 24hrs later he was having a skin graft taken from his thigh stitched onto his thumb.

Yeah, best wishes for a speedy recovery - as grayorm says we've all been there; mine was holding a door between my knees whilst using a power planer... I was very *very* lucky and only caught myself with the very edge of the blade, but I've worn work trousers with cut-resistant knee pads ever since.

Cheers, Pete

Ouch. Still got the scar from exactly the same action some 45 years ago. But fortunately, not quite as serious.

On the topic of stabs into the leg, one of the most macabre things is the notice on meat factory boning lines which says:-

"Femoral stab. DO NOT REMOVE THE KNIFE".

H & S tip,,If you have to kneel on something to hold it still, it"s best to get someone else to kneel on it for you.

Sound advice, and absolutely consistent with the old rule "never cut towards your thumb, always cut towards your chum"

Hi dann,
I'm forever nicking myself with chisels but nothing like your experience. Go steady until it's healed.
