I'm just playing around in sketchup with ideas for a new shed and I've not done this before.
I've a couple of questions if anyone has the time to explain to me:
1. Am I right in thinking you can stick with just a single top plate if your joists are directly above the studs?
2. If not, how would you do a double top plate on a frame, which is a pent roof with the pitch being achieved by one wall being lower than the other? You can't overlap the top plate to strengthen and join the sides when it's at an angle.. I think :?:
3. A standard door opening has a header made of 2 2x4's or 2x6's, depending on your framing size. What width door makes this header inadequate? Are their tables available for me to check when I'd need stronger headers/lintels?
Very basic stuff as you can see!
Thanks!
Carl.
