I have received two telephone calls from my supposed bank today which starts
"this is the lloyds bank tsb, please press any tab on your telephone pad to continue this call"

Lloyds bank deny making any calls to me , in fact they say they havent got my number.
So it looks like if you pres a keypad you most probably get set to a premium rate line.

Hope above helps or reminds others on forum about this type of scam.

Hi, I had something similar a few weeks ago, i had several calls over a couple of days, I just hung up the first few times but eventually pressed a key when I was transfered to a human. They did have the information to convince me that it was the bank but wouldn't discuss anythin g with me as it was my wife's account they wanted to deal with.
Even if it is genuine it's just plain ignorant to have an automated system make a "Customer Service Call"
As devonwoody says it may be a scam so just hang up.

I got a missed call on my mobile today and when I called back it said sorry, you've dialled an incorrect number!!. So how the hell did they call me in the first place then?

jon.

It should be standard practice for anyone receiving a phonecall from their bank (or any other company for that matter) to terminate the call and ring them back on the number you have for them. Banks will usually ask security questions. You need to be absolutely sure that you are genuinly talking to your bank before you answer these.

I found a great game to play with banks and mobile phone companies. They'll often ask you to confirm some details to prove who you are. Refuse to do it until they confirm who they are. This tends to activate the "does not compute" reaction and they can get a little flustered. They know full well you won't phone them back so they'll do their best to try and get round the security questions so they can sell you the product they called you about  .

I know it's childish, but I hate them wasting my time.

telephone scam on my virgin phone?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am getting continuous telephone calls saying they are a well known bank.
The message says " this is ........ bank services, please push any keypad on your telephone"
I assume this is a scam of some sort?

Any information ?

I telephoned virgin and they refuse to intercept the calls, do they intercept calls?

what if it was a paedophile calling my children so do they not intercept calls from a source such as this?

BT intercept calls because a relative of mine was getting the heavy breathers etc. and calls were monitored , do BT still do this? If so I am going back to BT when my contract expires with virgin.

IPosted the message above on the virgin cable forum, and they tell me it is a definite scam, you go through to a premium rate line at £ per second.
But I cant get virgin to intercept the calls, so giving them the heave oh at renewal.
~Do BT still intercept pest calls?

BT will allow you to block specified numbers or refuse connection to number withheld callers both of which options attract a charge. Otherwise they suggest that you contact the telephone preference service or in the case of malicious callers, the police. A position which I suspect though I haven't checked is similar if not identical to Virgin's own.

Cheers Mike

The cable forum (virgin media orientated) state it is not possible to get switched to a premium rate line by the problem I have posted above.

But I'm not going to risk it

So how do I prove the point?

Why bother asking the question if you don't believe the answer?

Virgin won't intercept these calls because they're not illegal and I'd agree that simply pressing the requested key on your phone cannot leave you with unexpected charges.
However of course you can choose to believe uninformed opinion on the internet rather than expert view.

I find that reading something like www.snopes.com is always fascinating to see the sort of rubbish that is bandied around the web as passed off as fact.
