What is the best bandsaw blade to use for cutting veneers? Actually what I want to cut are strips about 3mm thick. My current blade is Hakansson Silco 1/2 inch 3TPI AS. The trouble is that I end up with vertical 'corrugations' along the length. I suspect this has something to do with the speed of feed.

It's probably a rogue tooth, and probably at the weld.

+438 for Tuffsaws, I suspect.

What thickness or depth are you intending to cut?

I've used one of Ian's 4tpi Supertuff blades to cut ash about 6in thick and it was literally like a hot knife through butter. 8) The finish was excellent and left me feeling confident enough to glue it straight to the MDF. But, of course; having your fence set correctly to compensate for the blade 'drift' and not forcing the blade will help to improve the quality of the cut.

On deeper stuff, I've used one of Ian's Fastcut blades to cut thin veneers from oak 9in wide. Again, the results were highly impressive and the "sawn" finish was next to perfect.

If you have a lot of deep-ripping to do, I'd recommend you buy at least one spare blade while you're at it. As great as these blades are, they won't "outlive" a standard carbon steel blade if you're making a lot of deep cuts. :)

...In which case, one of the 4tpi Supertuff blades (as also mentioned by MikeC) should be ideal. :)

I'd have though 4TPI is a tad on the fine side for such thick timber, though I'm not saying it is unsuitable, just not ideal, perhaps.
I think mine has 2 cutting teeth plus a raker. Anyway, Ian will sort you out. Mind your fingers!

Many thanks to you all. I now await a solution from Tuffsaws.
