Will be interesting to compare notes Phil. Your thought process and reasoning was much the same as mine. Axminster supply the machine with a blade in it, (which they freely state is not very good) and a good quality new blade as well. It is very well worth spending a bit of time setting the machine up after you have spent a pleasant half an hour cleaning all the wax off the cast iron parts! I found it took about an hour and a half of cleaning, setting up and and fiddling before I got it cutting straight and true.

THE BEST FROM A BANDSAW 'Alex Snodgrass of Carter Industries has an excellent video One of the ways to get the best from your bandsaw is watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGbZqWac0jU on a tune up method that works well, but if you want to get the best use of your bandsaw on an ongoing basis, then the Steve Maskery DVD's will show you far more and they are a real investment. http://www.workshopessentials.com/shop/ '.

The Jet looks good with a sturdy fence and I like the idea of thumb screws rather than the usual socket head/allen key on the guides.
My Record saw (bought from D&M Tools) was delivered on a 7.5 ton truck by a guy from Frome, Somerset, very helpful guy and placed it in the middle of my garage/workshop.
I look forward to reading your review...bb

Hi BB
The smoothness of the blade height adjuster, the clamping action of the fence and the paint finish ( possibly better than my Jeep) sealed the fate of the Axi trade. However, Had an offer of a 7.5 ton delivery (Frome is 10 miles away) been an option, I would have had the Record 400 over the Jet, and spent the extra £100 on Tuff saw blades and Steve Maskery's DVDs. Yandles' loss on that count.

Review is started in draft form already.

Hi AJB

All credit to Axminster, paid for the saw at 3pm Tuesday, delivered here to my patio at 10:00 this morning, most companies struggle to deliver anything within a week at this time of year, they managed a 140kg piece of kit in 19 hours. I'm impressed.

The review is in draft progress, I'll start a new thread, it's going to pretty much mirror your initial findings, but as I had the display model from the store, it was fully de-waxed, all shiny and 'ready to run'. Yea right!
