I have heard of a motorcyclist being asked to remove his helmet, when he did it revealed a full balaclava! he politely pointed out there were no signs asking for Balaclavas to be removed

ROFL..............................

Many, many, many years ago, my then father-in-law visited Moscow on a business trip with several colleagues

They stayed in a huge hotel, at the time I think it was the largest in the world. Since it was winter and, since the hotel was so vast, they all agreed to meet up for breakfast armed with coats, scarves, gloves etc ready to go to work. On arriving at the breakfast room, they found signs everywhere saying that it was "not allowed to carry overcoats in the breakfast room", and there was no cloakroom.

When they asked why, they were greeted blank faces and shrugs from the waiters.

So, they devised a cunning plan. They were not allowed to carry their coats so they wore them!

And so began the great English tradition of, when in Moscow, wearing an overcoat to breakfast. :D

I was in our local Sainsbury petrol station recently waiting to pay. The customer at the till was a lady wearing some sort of veil over her face. The next customer in line was a motorcyclist wearing his crash helmet.

The cashier asked him, politely, to remove his helmet and pointed to a sign which requested motorcyclists to remove helmets so that the CCTV could record them (my wording not theirs).

The motorcyclist asked why he should remove his helmet. The cashier explained that they wanted to record customers faces on the CCTV.

The motorcyclist then asked, politely, how they had managed to record the face of the previous customer, the one with the veil.

Nothing more was said on the subject..................... and he kept his helmet on.

Rules should apply to everyone equally or not at all.

I wonder how many Petrol stations have been robbed by Burqa wearing villains?

I would wager that there have been more robberies by men wearing tights (although not necessarily on their legs).

I do know of 1 Post Office robbed by 3 blokes wearing them tho!

Having said that - I'm not a fan of women drivers wearing veils tbh! Especially in the case of a shunt - I can't ID the driver and the Police won't come out.

So, another Islam (at least perceived to be Islam related) themed thread started by the same person, Alan Jones.
Now, I don't have a problem with open, honest and civilised discussion as this thread has mostly been with the usual one or two exceptions. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with the issues, personally there's more interesting topics to talk about.
However I have a problem with you Mr Jones. On the previous thread you jumped in with some sarcastic remark about Islam, benefits and social housing which in turn led to the thread being locked. You failed to back up or further explain your remarks and here again you start a thread with a reference about France's proposal to ban the Burqa. You don't give your thoughts on the issue other than some childish remark about woman and another stupid post about driving.

Only some months ago this thread would've been killed at birth. Don't spoil things for others.

To me your actions are of a troll. Drop something which may be contentious on to a forum without any reasoned contribution and sit back and watch the fun. If I'm wrong kindly tell me why. Otherwise you'll be treated in the manner a troll deserves.
Have a nice day.

What if I wore a transparent boiler suit? I'm not concealing my identity but am I guilty of committing a crime where I'm attempting to not leave any DNA?

Is that not being a bit transparent.

I'm sorry but I cant see where you are coming from Noel. The previous thread was closed before I had the chance to reply and I have expressed my thoughts quite clearly towards this one, which incidently is a legitimate topic of public interest and concern and has been debated on numerous outlets this week. Are you saying we can only discuss current news topics that you are interested in ?

No Alan he is not. What he means is that because religion and politics have been mentioned this thread would have been closed down or removed a few months ago. But Noel is moderating moderately and giving everyone a chance to comment on various topics just as long as we keep them sensible with no arguments

Cheers

Surely wearing a veil must compromise your periphial vision when driving :?

I don't believe it does - there is usually a gap left from just below the eyes and you can usually see the eyebrows too. I've never seen one driving where you can't see the eyes tho.

However - on a general perspective, whether I agree with it or not, imposing my preferences on another smacks of something.

The veil\burqa isn't an Islamic creation - more a puritanical Saudi export round the world. Modesty might be an Islamic requirement - something that is almost universally agreed upon, but a veil & so forth causes so much disagreement amongst Muslims.

What you fail to understand (or it appears that way) is that Muslims are about as homogeneous as all Christians other than Catholic. One begins to loose count of all the various "denominations" after a while & their differences can be stark.

As Teo put it - to be different is a freedom we enjoy & many died to protect these freedoms (I'm talking WWI & WWII here), so folk aren't going to give them up easily.

Yes Dibs, I know its only a tiny percentage of women that would want to wear a burqa

You mean a veil?

I've never seen or heard of a burqa (that would be the tent like object that you see on pictures\tv from Afghanistan) being worn in the UK.

Read over the locked thread again. You did manage to reply after my initial objection to your post, remember "That idiot with the hook and his hombres" nonsense post?

As for "I have expressed my thoughts quite clearly towards this one"
What, these thoughts? "must say I couldn't (other than in instances of compromised security) care less what people do or don't wear. In fact I think a lot of women would benefit from wearing a burka" and "Surely wearing a veil must compromise your periphial vision when driving" Yeah, great thoughts.

As for your stupid, asinine comment about me not allowing topics that don't interest me. Again, read my post, I said "personally" I don't have any interest in the issues. Google could be your friend, look up the meaning of the word.

As I said earlier don't act the troll. I really haven't the time or inclination to explain what every man and his dog understands. Oh, and go and read the forum rules. They are not hard to find.

Show some respect, not to me, just show just a little respect to the site and it's members.

Seen all the time in London Dibs. Head to toe and just a slot for the eyes.
Odd sight for the week .. Young mum in a burqha pushing a pram with her
three year old in it doing an X Factor audition R+B style. :?

I find the sight of Blokes walking around in Public places bare chested way more offensive than any Head attire worn by any Woman.

Tom-K \ Vormulac - the last time I went was in London as opposed to the edge and off again is back in the early-nineties and I dare say things have changed. The R&B thing - now that's what camera phones are for!

BSM - The hijab is nothing more than scarf covering the hair and neck (sometimes) - the entire face is not hidden.
