Has anyone found out a way to :

(a) stop that bloody window opening up every time I add something to my basket ?

(b) windows opening up as you scroll over a hot-area?

(c) another company to order stuff from 'cos that Axminster website irritates the hell out of me.

There is an upside though. I now find that I really really have to need something before I can brace myself to use the site. So impulse purchases have long gone and the wallet is much happier !

Likewise Roger, this time your Victor Meldrew stylee rant is spot on on this occasion

I also hate all those things you mentioned and have broken the long held but somewhat odd hobby of whiling away the occasional quiet half hour by randomly browsing the site for new toys that I didn't know I needed

On the plus side it really has saved me a fortune in the meantime, and as I also strongly dislike the Rutlands version, and their lack of customer service, I find I am buying hardly anything at all of late, which has to be a good thing, I think

Cheers, Paul :D

I thought I was alone in detesting the new site.Takes an age to load aswell, definitely not progress. :(

Methinks this is a contradiction what about all those special edition thingies that's mnamed something like White ------ Dover

Aaah, well, but.... technically those don't count as I ordered them ages ago at Ally Pally

Awful, ennit. I mailed Ian Styles citing sevearl annoyances including the blasted roll-over pop-up thing. He said that - and other things - were on the hit list.
But do leave feedback on the site - the more people complain, the more likely they are to fix it.

toolpost, stiles and bates, and tilgear - however all their websites are an unmitigated pile of ***** so you might be better off staying with axminster if you are easily iritated ;)

or workshop heaven - nice site but very slow sometimes

Tilgear Site... Total Mare.

WS Heaven... OK'ish. Sometimes I give up looking as it takes sooooo looooong for the page to load.

Axminster... Hmmmm?? If you know what you want it's OK'ish. Them damn popups annoy me as does 'Things you've recently viewed' ?? I know what I've viewed, I viewed them. Waste of time.

Trouble is a lot of well presented sites fail to live up to the level of service I require. Flash Site - Crap Service.

Ah, yes... Axminster's site. I visited once since the re-design. That was enough for me. It was some time ago now but I seem te recall feeling as though I was battling with it. The site now stands between the visitor and the product which is fundamentally bad design.

I used it the other week and didn't really notice anything wrong with it.

Found what I wanted, stuck it in the basket, found some more stuff to make it up to fifty quid, took some stuff out to make it back down to fifty quid, paid and got it delivered.

pretty standard stuff

but then I'm not a 'heavy' user so maybe i'm not so used to how good it was previously

just thought i'd post that for a bit of balance

Very interesting link. Just checked out their prices for a veritas LA Jack and a Med Shoulder Plane and they were cheaper than Axminster. That doesn't happen too often (unless Tilgear are doing a LN clearance!!!).

One thing however, they were only a penny cheaper. For both planes. Which is further evidence that Axminster are the industry beanchmark.

In my opinion Fine Tools Germany has the lowest prices on all types of Veritas planes in Europe.
Shipping to the UK starts from 9 euros (7,4 pounds).

Take the no.4 for instance:
Axminster 242 pounds
Ask Tools 242 pounds
Fine Tools 180 pounds, thats 25% less (excl. shipping)

I would know where to buy the Veritas planes from.

 Sounds familiar.

Can't say I find Axminster's new site any more annoying than the old one - but then I found the old one sufficiently annoying as it was, so that's faint praise. But there's something fundamentally wrong when you need the paper catalogue at your elbow to have any chance of finding something that you know they stock.

Too right. Found Tee-Nuts in the catalogue under hardware over the weekend and can't for the life of me find them on the webpage.

We could put it down to teething problems...
