finally comes down to these 2 saws. due to finances and a bad winter. please could you help me decide on which to spend my hard earned on.

There aren't nearly as many owners of that Makita saw on this forum but, if you're taking it with you on site, etc. then, it's a portable saw, designed to be transported around. On the Axminster saw, you'd have a long right-hand extension table to deal with, plus the rail on the front of the saw.
Chris - I think you might be confusing the MLT100 with the 2704 model...? ;-)
