Hi All

It's been years since I've visited axminster tools, I'm visiting friends in Devon there a week on Friday and have to drive right past axminster so thought i go in to see the place .

By the time i go to Devon my dust extraction system piping will be fitted which is a mixture of 100mm and 50mm piping and I will have completed and fitted the blast gate by then as well , this only leaving the selection of the extractor unit it's self .

Been wondering which one to choose :?: , doesn't have to big and expensing just big enough to do the job , noise level is important to me, at the moment I use a old vag which does the job perfect but is noisy the piping from it wont be big enough to cope with 100mm piping supplying shavings from a new planer to come shortly.


The 100mm extraction piping I designed to be minimal which will deal with the saw bench and a new planer shavings ,leaving the 50 mm piping to deal with dust only from other machines both kept to minimum the 100mm length is only about 2m in length and the 50mm of no more than 5 m with various blast gate fitted .

I was wondering does axminster allow you to hear there machines running before you buy so you judge for your self how noisy one machine against an other may be.

Having said that I don't want to lose efficiency against noise levels so any help here would be nice . thanks for any replies in advance . hc

Probably, if they have it as a demo on the shop floor. I was certainly able to try my scrollsaw before purchasing - I wanted to see how much vibration there was so they kindly ran an extension lead out to it. Ther machines are not all next to a plug though, so may pay to phone and ask/request first?

HC - I think if you have a mixture of 100 and 50mm pipework you'll need HPLV sucker, in other words a vac and I don't think Ax do a big enough one (might be wrong though, usually am :roll: :wink so a Camvac from Yandles would be my answer and in that way you'd be able to visit two tool emporiums and feel multiple overload from the combined effects of the 'Slope' :lol: ...and you think you're just going to walk out of Axminster empty handed? - Rob

Woodbloke is correct. With your piping, you must use a High Pressure Low Volume vac. Unfortunately for you these are all brush motored and noisier that the induction motored High Volume Low Pressure units. The HVLP units will not cope with any reduction in the piping diameter from 100mm down to 50mm.

Axy do a few http://www.axminster.co.uk/category-Vacuum-Extractors-793841.htm but better known names are Camvacs and Record Power. You can get 1, 2 or 3 motors in these depending on make and they do suck very well and can deal with very fine dust which is pretty important as standard.

I have just got a Record Power DX5000 which has 2 motors for a plumbed in system like yours. I will also be trying to install it outside in a shed to reduce the noise.

If you havent been for a long time, be aware that they've moved - they are now in a purpose built unit on the edge of town oposite a garage. (the premises they used to be in would appear to be a clothes shop now)

i dont know where you are coming from clansman but if its oop north (as your user name suggests) you could also go down the A34 and visit toopost at didcot to make it a hatrick
