I'm new to turning and I've just purchased my 1st lathe, an Axminster AWVSL1000, bought 2nd hand from Facebook marketplace.
Not knowing how it's been used and maintained over its previous life I'm thinking it needs a quick maintenance service before I start mounting blanks to it as the workshop it used to live in was VERY dusty and was caked in woodchips and dust when I picked it up.
Having never owned a lathe before, not 100% sure of what I should be doing, blowout dust from the motor & gears and spray in some lube are the obvious, not sure if there is anything else I should be looking at.
When lubing the gears, is standard WD40 OK to use or is there any specialist lube that I need to use?
Appreciate any tips and advice
Thanks
