Hi everyone,

thinking very hard about splurging on a bandsaw, I've been eyeing up the Axminster AWESBS and was wondering whether anyone could comment?

Likewise if anyone fancies suggesting something else for the same sort of money I'd be all ears :D

All the best,
steve.

Hi,

Ive got a S/h Axminster and its been really good,

Id recommend these models, sturdy , do the job.

I've had one for a year or so. Very pleased with it. I am thinking of buying the M42 blade for it to see how much better that is. The current deal looks good value.

For those who own this saw, how does it cope against 175mm thick hardwood like ash or maple? I wouldnt be using it like this every weekend, but I need to know it would occasionally manage it.

For a first purchase, Im wondering if I would get away with a saw this size, or if I need to go for something like the AP4300-T3 or the new AWHBS450N?

Ideally I'd get a big one for resawing and a small one for curved work, but thats out of my reach for now.

One of the most important things that is often overlooked, but also difficult to find out, is the ease with which the fence can be adjusted so that it is parallel to the blade.

One of my bandsaws is the smallest Axminster and while it is a little gem when properly set-up, and I wouldn't get rid of it for the world, the fence has no adjustment. The (awkward) solution is to adjust the actual table (which brings the fence alignment with it) but on mine I had to do a fair bit of fettling and enlargement of mounting holes before I could get it spot-on. But even then it was damn fiddly with a lot of trial and error.

In comparison my other bandsaw (Basato 5) has copious adjustment on the fence.
