I think this is a great ides, Chems, if you have the space! You may remember me sliding the blanket chest about on a sheet of OSB - I wish now that I'd thought of knocking something like this together and adding wheels on the bottom...

I wouldn't worry about the fact that you have two sheets of MDF joined at the centre. As long as your 4"x2"s are true and parallel, that is all that should matter. 18mm thickness on top is then sturdy enough. :)

Its actually only 12mm MDF, I can walk down it with no flex with my supertrim weight of 12stones.

As for space, I was thinking that it would double up as a table quite nicely, maybe a few leg frames like your saw tressles or even just sitting it over the table saw? Its just that its mighty heavy to lift.

PS Weekly Bench build updates aren't enough for me, I need moar!!!

Yep, I like that idea as well. If you do go for trestles like mine though, I find the feet to be a real PITA; I'm always tripping up on them!! :x I plan to cut them up soon and recycle them in to something else... I did mention it in a Blog post, a while back.

I have something similar in the workshops as the floor is all over the place. I have used adjustable kitchen legs on mine so that the platform can be leveled perfectly flat and level.

If the platform is isnt level you can get some misalignment of doors etc when the furniture is installed. My concern with your design is that if the garage floor is out of level the platform will be out of level.

Jonny, I laid a big spirit on it today and it real level. The underlying floor is overall level, its just it has the occasional small ridge imperfections in the concrete as you can see in the photo which is enough to cause trouble. I got the piece onto it today and have carried on the build.
