Thanks all of you for your nice comments - the 2 big mistakes I made in this mirror (there were lots of smaller ones) were huge and could easily have led to abandonment of the whole piece. I remember (can't recall where) someone saying that your skill as a woodworker was about how good you are at rescuing / recovering from / hiding your mistakes. Certainly I seem to make my fair share of them! Every piece of mine has got at least one hideous error which has to be overcome and every so often the piece gets binned!! Does everyone else make mistakes like that too?
The original spherical ebony knobs I had turned were too dominant so I binned them and turned a couple of smaller ones in walnut - much better
