Picked up a leaflet in Curry's the other day. They are offering for you to either bring your old stuff back or they will collect and dispose when you purchase new. Not clear if any charges though!

According to the WEEE regs as outlined in the pdfs referred to in the post above the removal service if offered should be FOC.

Doesn't that apply just to items sold by the store after 1st July?

I thought the whole point was that the retailer who made the sale to the end-user was responsible for recycling it at the end of it's life.

PS I know quite a lot of PC builders have stopped supplying their own PC's.

Second using freecycle. We've given stuff away on there, and also picked stuff up. Easier than online auctions!

PS - anyone need a dishwasher? GE Whirlpool, 10 years old (I think) but still running. Not energy efficient...

My council collect and dispose of fridge/freezers FOC (I assumed that this is because they have to comply with legislation--from the comments here this would appear not to be the case, perhaps it is because of the danger they can pose to children). With regard to other merchantdise they will collect up to three bulky items for £10, eg a 3 piece suite of furniture.
