Hi folks,

Not having space for a table saw, and being tired of working on my front drive, (weather permitting), I need a sliding compound mitre saw. For one thing it will fan the woodwork fires again, and to heck with the arthritis!

I was going to wait for the new Bosch saw, (with the pantograph sliding mechanism). However it looks like a long wait before this model reaches the UK, and in any case with 20% VAT it's gonna be an expensive buy, just to save a few inches of floor space.

So I am waiting no longer.

I am torn between the DeWalt 12" and the Hitachi C12Rsh.

Are there any observations on either, or even an alternative please? I am a bit concerned about motor noise by the way, so any input there would be welcomed. Also any info on Tooledup.com would be useful. (I get a 'too-good-to-be-true' feeling about their prices!)

Regards and Thanks in anticipation

Think Tom (Wizer) has one, but I don't think he visits here much.

Never used the Hitachi version. But I bought a Dewalt DW777 a couple of years back http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DeWalt-DW777-Slid ... 5198dec4c3
And think it is a great piece of kit. I particularly like the way the sliding mechanism is built into the saw not the base so it takes up loads less bench space when not in use. I have used it lots with no problems, very accurate mitres, and I am happily cuting up to 60mm thick by about 200mm at a time. Layers of 15mm softwood, have also comfortably cut 40x230mm of oak.
Check carefully on Fleabay and you can get good prices on 'reconditioned' tools. I think they have been unpacked for tool shows etc. I buy all my kit like this, and have never had a problem.

Much obliged Chunko,

I bookmarked the page. They still seem to have them.
It's very tempting to say the least.
Obliged for the feedback.
Thanks again

John .

Yes i do have that one, I fitted it on the Bosch mobile gravity table

Its a beast of a machine, very strong and in my opinion very good. My BIL has the Metabo 12 inch and even he thinks that this machine is better then his one, and He just upgraded from his 12 inch Dewalt .

Its nice you can put it against the wall.

small downside is the trenching, you can only do very low trenching, not very high

No experience of the saw but I used Tooled-Up once about five-years ago and have never used them again. I only ordered a Bosch sander. It was in stock yet, it took them a week to dispatch it. There was no glitch in the system, either; this seemed to be the way in which they operate... :p

Have you seen Toolstop's website? They have this 'buy now pay later' offer which may be of interest to some people. If I ever decided to buy a Domino , I may try to go down six-month route...
