Anyone going to Glasgow show FRIDAY 13th??

I am going to the show Friday 13th, it's my frst visit.
Is it worth the time, and are you going?

Of course it won't be, it's Scotland. Getting rained on is a national past time. :lol: Still at least it's all in doors. Do you know how much the parking will be this year Nick? It's been pretty ridiculous in the past at around £5. :shock:

I was in beautiful Scotland last weekend, and it was lovely! I fulfilled a strange lifetime's ambition of crossing the Kincardine Bridge. I've seen signs for it so many times but never crossed!

Yeh and its another beautiful day in Glasgow today! That's two so far in 2009! Definitely going to the show next Friday with a view to having a stand next year. I'll make a point of introducing myself Nick, see you then.

Recommendation for parking - park on the otherside of the expressway, feed the meter (pretty cheap) and then walk to SECC using the walkway/tunnel/bridge thing.

Any ideas about a UKworkshop meeting place somewhere at the show? I'm hoping to get the train down from the Granite City, probably Friday too. Can't face driving down.

With Friday approaching it appears that there are 5 of us going to be at the show, one of whom has a stand.
May I suggest a meet at the British Woodworking stand, say noon?

Sorry I failed to make it for 1pm, I hope you all had an enjoyable time.

I managed to make it down for 2pm and I must admit to it being my first visit to any woodworking show - I was very impressed. Although everyone said it was quieter than previous years there was a buzz about the place and a good number of stands to view.

The highlight was meeting Nick Gibbs for the first time - his passion for what he does is really evident and I enjoyed talking about the industry for all of 30 mins - thanks again for your time Nick, I hope you didn't lose out on too many subscriptions.

My mind is now definitely made up - we will take up some stands at future shows but I don't think I want to wait until this time next year.

Can anyone tell me where the best show in the UK would be for us to 'cut our teeth'?

Good to meet Nick G. and the Laird at the show and put live faces to names. Show was well worth my trip down from Aberdeen (train with Club 55 was only £13 for oldies like me - much cheaper than driving and also much less hassle) Got a lot of useful information, but didn't buy much, apart from quite a lot of micro-metalworking stuff for my daughter from what others have called the "Carboot Seller" and some small, but useable pieces of very cheap box from them also.
It was fairly quiet by 3:0pm, which was good for looking round, but perhaps not so good for the stallholders.
One thing I would strongly recommend for fellow oldies - the guy selling bifocal safety glasses for a tenner a throw. If you've got a common oldie presciption (+1,2,or 3), they seem incredible value. Wish I'd bought a couple of pairs now!

Was good to meet and chat to DickM and Nick. I got there about 11.30 - along with half of Glasgow. Couldn't see much - including the floor. Fortunately it quietened fairly soon and you could see the demos, stalls etc. There seemed aquite a lot of buying going on but I was strong, and only came away with some bandsaw blades, a set of Robert Sorby bevel edged chisels, a (very) small plane, a set of drill bits (with a 10yr guarentee - we'll see :roll: Plus, obviously, a subscription to Nicks mag (which came with a 1,000 free screws - thanks Nick).

Have to say it wasn't amazing, but still worth a visit I reckon. Got a good plane deal from Burhouse so left a happy man!
