I'm seriously wanting to buy some shares but i have just realised that the ones i want to buy are listed on nasdaq. As a us exchange how easy is it for a foreigner to make the deal and what is the process?

tombo - if you are going to buy US shares as a one-off, most UK based brokers can offer you a service based on their own charges, plus a premium for the US deal. But if you are going to trade regularly you need a deep discount brokerage where you can deal for as little as $0.005 (that's 0.5 cents) per share. So a deal of (say) 500 shares @ $20 per share will cost you $2.5 (about £1.25) for an investment of $10,000 (about £5,000). And no stamp duty on US shares.

Compare that to a typical deal in the UK where a £5,000 investment will typically cost about £15 plus £25 stamp duty, for a total dealing cost of £40. Hmmm! £40 or £1.25? Another example of Rip-off Britain?

I use http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/main.php and have found the interface to be intuitive, efficient and very quick.
