Any recommendations for a larger sized tumble dryer?

We don't have a tumble drier but use clothes airers and a dehumidifier. This will dry everything overnight or if in a heated room (e.g spare bedroom) in about 4 hours.

I originally bought the dehumidifier from ebay with the intention of making a home made wood drying unit, but never (or at least not yet) got round to it and the benefit of the unit in drying clothes means I doubt i'd be allowed to use it!

The one I have is WDH 101P and holds 10 liters of water (it will fill with a full washing load)
this link just for the picture and new pricehttp://www.meaco.com/widetech.htm

and here is one on ebay with a day to go http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/dehumidifier-...arden_Hearing_Cooling_Air?hash=item2a02a51dc6

we also used a dehumidifier for clothes drying, before the kids came along. It is an ebac and very efficient compared to a tumble dryer IF you have the space. I used to place next to the clothes airer with some tent fabric over the top (ebac used to sell a drying tent but IIRC very expensive) and left it in the garage on a timer. Worked a treat at the fraction of the cost of tumble drying.

Cheers

Yes! Depends on the drying temp you've chosen, method of temp control and dampness of the washing.

Roger,

We have a condensing dryer, the air does vent back into the room. Basically the unit has a heat exchanger in the bottom, the cold(er) incoming air is use to cool the hot exhaust air. This has two benefits, the water is condensed out and the incoming air is preheated, making it a little more efficient than the stand heat dumping type. The room does get warmer but no where near as much as with our old standard one.

We've had White Knight gas tumble dryers, (new one about two years ago), for around twenty years or so and SWIMBO swears by them. Not so economical as they used to be with the price hikes in gas but still better than all electric. Wifey reckons they are also a lot gentler on clothes than the all electric type.

Regards

John

Oh rats. Why didn't I sign up to Which first? Went for a White Knight 767 which seemed to get good reviews plus a good price. But, boy, it is so noisy - 4 x our old machine - and that's what Which said. The condenser doesn't seem brilliant either as you can sense the humidity in the air.

Personal experience Roger is that condensers take longer to dry a load than the 'normal' type machine. I only recommended them when an outlet pipe was impossible.

You mean a vent pipe, I guess, Roy? I can see the benefit - it's what we currently have but the outlet through the wall is in the wrong place now and I don't really want to knock another hole in the 20" stone wall. Plus with the larger tumble dryers I'm not sure how much clearance I will have at the back between the machine and the wall. Those hoses are about 4" in diameter.

Also I like the idea that the hot air is staying inside the house.

Are well, the wonders of a portable phone. Stuck it alongside the machine while it was running so customer service could hear it and it's now going back!
