My faux "workmate" has finally died. A combination of too much weight and a bit of a fall was enough to finish off the legs...
It was one of those cheapo B&D knockoffs from Wilkes/Homebase or somewhere a few years ago, and frankly owes me nothing for the uses I've put it through, so...

Question is, the wind-up screw mechanisms are fine, and it seems a shame to scrap 'em. I've seen a video of somebody converting their leg-less job into a poor-man's Moxon by attaching it to the front/end of their bench, which I thought was a decent idea....but...

My bench has got a big, sturdy apron across the front - and I've haven't room at either end - so I'm a bit stuck....unless you have a different idea of what to do with them?!

Any reason you don't clamp or screw/bolt the Moxy down to the top when needed? I can't see a few permanent screw locations being a bad thing for the top or just fastening through a couple dog holes. Stach it when not needed.

No, none...but I've already got a B&D "jobber" on the top. This is OK for holding small stuff, but it increases the (working) height of the bench, of course.
I'd like a way of utilising the apron to hold stuff...I thought of the crochet idea, with pegs at various points on the apron to rest work on. I'm still tempted by this...
"Your" moxon idea would work, of course, but would just take the place of the jobber...
