In another thread on the General woodwork forum Wizer asks how the wire is routed through the lamp.

This was the original lamp

This is the one I made yesterday, it has had one coat of danish oil but now needs rubbing down with wire wool and a couple more coats of oil.

It's just common sense really the wire has to go up one of the legs, so I saw one of the oversize legs in half, plane the sawn faces flat then pass each half over the router to put a dado in both halves then glue them together as in this pic.

The three marks are just to make sure I glue up correctly. Next is to plane all four legs to the same size through the thicknesser, then cut them all to the same length. Then all the tenons are cut.

This pic shows where the wire runs. On the leg with the wire in it the side of the tenon nearest to the routed groove is cut out to allow the wire through. Threading the wire is done before glue up so it does make the glue up rather interesting :)

The feet are added after the glue up when everything is cured.

Last thing to do is the top of the legs, they are false, although the mortises go right through the base and top the tenons only reach through 3/4 the thickness so it's easy to make four false pieces with a tiny shoulder from off cuts of the legs.

Here's the tall one I glued up this morning

Thanks LN. Very Clever, but simple at the same time. Nice result.
