Me like a lot, when can I come get it ?.

Mind you I do have one little concern, that I would be bloody scared to death of picking it up with them handles, I can't get rid of the feeling I would be looking rather stupid as I am stood at the top of a long mahogany table filled with admiring guests as I am left holding nothing but the handles trying not to blubber.

Hi Mailee ,

Humble apologies , i have now found your thread on the earlier part of this project , its really very impressive how you have created the interior
so well.

This must have taken you hours and hours to complete . Did you use a photocopy initially to do the logo bit ?

I am familiar with flock linings and hand lined cabinets as you can probably appreciate , but i didnt know the method that was used to apply the flock , amazingly simple really , though i am sure you had to be very careful with masking off etc

Just a thought ,for your next canteen :) , it looks like you fitted and fixed in all the innards for the spoons into the drawer ( apologies if i got this wrong too), i know our canteen cabinets mostly have their innards affixed to a board , and then the whole assembly is dropped into the drawer, interference fit they would say in engineering (drops in like a piston with a hiss of air ).
I guess this makes the flocking process a deal easier as you dont have any masking to do as you flock the whole assembly , it also means if you cock it up you can start again ( suits my working methods great :) ).
Our cabinets either leave wood showing at the sides , or in more plush versions use sheet flock attached to thin ply or card possibly ? glued to the sides to finish it off . As i said full of useless info !!!
Aswell as all that it leaves the customer to decide which drawer lining they want in which drawer or they can take them out at some stage and use the piece for another purpose .

Good luck with the Kitchen job !

David

Mailee

Supurb job, they'll should be really pleased.

regarding the Flocking, I think I might use that in my tool cabinet project later this year, so I'll be on to you for expert advice.

Well thanks guys, much appreciated. No problem Waka when you need any advice please ask even though I am no expert on flocking. I shall bear your comments in mind for next time David. I hadn't thought of removable linings inside the drawers wanting to keep the weight down although given how heavy it is I don't suppose it would have made much difference. If I do get one of hese to build in the future I think that would definitely be a better way thanks. As for the work involved it did take a while and I estimate it took around three weeks in total, not exactly a money maker but worth doing. I drew the logo up on the computer from the box that came with the cutlery and then after printing it out transfered it onto the wood with carbon paper. Then it was a case of routing around the letters and logo for the desired effect. All in all I really enjoyed building this as it was quite a challenge.

Alan,

Superb job - as per usual.
Craftsmanship I aspire to, but know I'll never achieve.

David -C, as "our man in the trade" what do you estimate that would retail for if you were selling it???

Hi Mailee ,
Thanks , and when you get another commission to build one give me a shout and i will let you have some images of our cabinets for inspiration .
You never know .

Hi Lurker , All i can say is our cabinets are good quality and made to a good standard , mostly veneered and maybe not quite up to Ercol quality .
That said , we offer a table canteen with drawers which retails around £800. The top version we do is around £1400, which is hand lined and has lockable side doors which stop the drawers opening .And yes that is empty ! We probably only carry those in stock in Harrods in case you want to rush out and buy one ...''
However i have to say , Mailees' cabinet is superb , not merely good and so putting a value on such a bespoke item made with such skill and care and using solid oak , well , you probably get my drift ...

I now have permission from the neighbour to start my summerhouse
/workshop , so abw i will be putting footings in next week , yahayy ! So i just might feel the need to be posting some more queries and questions as the build progresses if thats ok ':?'

Cheers ,

David

Thanks David. I will look forward to seeing your workshop/summerhouse progress. I do hope we will have some WIP shots on here too? Will be of any help I can as will most of the members on here I am sure. Best of luck with the build.

Superb work again Mailee - The flocking was a great idea and it really finishes off the inside well, but I think my favorite design feature is the shape of the bottom rail.

Keep up the good work - It gives me something to aspire to.
