Morning all sorry but another shed question.
I am looking at putting up an 10 x 16 foot timber workshop. I do not want to use a concrete base for it due to cost, effort required and there are sycamore trees where it is to be positioned. Plus I do not fancy having a huge lump of concrete in the garden. I am thinking of building a timber base with posts or adjustable legs on concrete pads. Just wondering if anyone else has gone down this root.

Many thanks

Mick

Mine is a concrete garage type structure on a well laid flagged patio, (6" of hardcore well compacted). Inside I put a sheet of visqueen down then 3x2 joists straight onto the flags with 3/4" ply sheets over it to form a raised floor. Between the 3x2 I put polystyrene insulation. Works fine.

Most of my sheds have been built with wooden bases raised on blocks. You don't need to use concrete pads I have used large corporation type slabs, and levelled with various size blocks or bricks. Works well and has advantages. The one thing to remember is to place some damp proofing between blocks and floor joists. Also raise it high enough of the ground for a good air flow and so that cats or small dogs can get underneath. Helps for removing any vermin that may take up residence. A present shed has rabbits in residence underneath. Which are no problem and can always be looked on as bonus. Free food and something to watch.
