When I now boot up I get a dialogue message

from Microsoft

"ReminderApp dot exe"

Is this something to do with that last problem I had re the SQMDATA files that I was creating on C drive?

What about DishOtheDay? Or have you and Mrs DW not eaten since your last recipe?

The ladyship has just had her second cataract op yesterday so I am on cooking and washing up duties for another 3 weeks.

So its roast pork today, but cannot find the thread to use and Mr. W. doesnt like individual cook threads. :)

dw...if you totted up all the time you have to spend on sorting your PC out .....need I say more ?

no need to get a mac - just get a pc which works ( FWIW macs arent totally free of these problems either (i used to have a G4 which had a battery/capacitor which controlled screen display which died 3 times in the life of the machine - and an Imac which could never "find" the printer)

Who He? Never mind, just ignore him.

unless hes been promoted to moderator status who cares ;)

that said i think even his concern was more on the look i made sandwich, look a cup of tea nonentity threads rather than actual recipes

"The process belongs to the software Greeting Card Factory Deluxe or Greeting Card Factory Photo Card Maker by Nova Development."

If you have either of these applications installed then you should uninstall completely and reboot. If the problem is still there then probably need a registry clean although could be a malware hidden in the stystem.

If you're having a lot of problems, would in not be better to back up all your data (which you should have done anyway), and do a format and clean windows install. Will need to re install your programs also so make sure you have disks and serials / etc.

I do mine twice a year whether I need it or not (bit like showering) - keeps my system top notch - no problems.

Happy to offer advice if you need it.

Bob

Thanks above, I've got a 500gb hard drive which is 75% full of programs, alright junk, I know I ought to do what you advise, but I think its three days of work to put some of the stuff back.

Put it down to me who is someone who just wants to moan, (i think its Microsoft who are upset because I am not allowing my PC to report back, thats when it started from the other week)

just get an external hard drive and copy all the junk over - the format and reinstal on the internal drive - keep most of the junk on the external

BSM, I've got a 500gb external harddrive, never thought of doing it that way. However programs wont run from external HD unless installed directly there and there are 117 files in Program files.

put all the documents, pictures, music etc on the external drive - and leave them there

the programs will need to be reinstalled on the internal after the clean install of windows, but have a think and decide what you actually need as 117 program files may have some bearing on why your machine is running slowly

That's your problem in a nutshell!

Why the **** do you need that many progs?

Note which ones you actually use over say 1 month and I bet it's just a fraction.
I guarantee also that a lot of your progs do exactly the same things.

Software developers have become lazy since the emergence of large HDD and the progs are bloated and rubbish code often causes conflict with other progs as they all via for the same chunk of business

get rid of everything you don't need and only re-install if and when. No good just uninstalling as they leave rubbish behind - invest the time as my other post and your machine will run as well as the day you bought it.

I am at this very minute doing exactly that for a mate but having to extract his data first as he waited 'till the machine finally crashed!

If I use the external hard drive for saving files only, I then have no back up because they are not on the main hard drive.
Upto 60 years of my photographic storage has gone in over the past 12 years, I would never want to do that again.
I need a new dvd reader (it jams) so very shortly after caring duties are reduced I will take advice above and clean up and reinstall only programs in regular use.

so get two external drives (or for that matter put another internal drive in your computer and use C; for programs and D: for storage - external for back up), or use an online storage vault - you dont want to rely on dvds as they dont last for ever - nor will the technolgy standstill (just think how few computers have floppy drives anymore)

OK I have completely backed up My Documents this morning to external harddrive.

I will get my PC supplier (private) to reinstall windows shortly.
