Another ID thread - oak or elm?

The last picture has some of the characteristic big elm grain pattern, which was slightly visible in the original post pictures and could have led the owner to say it was elm. However, image one and the rays nail it as oak in my book. Also the very light colour is freshly sanded oak, too light for elm.

To be fair to the chap you got it from, it was difficult to tell without doing what you've done. Still a decent bit of wood. 👍
 
The seller had it down as elm, which is why i was interested, but I don't think they were actively trying to mislead or anything.

It was a £20 bit of wood, which I can still use as oak, but just isn't as interesting to me as if it had have been elm.

The process of learning about the medullary rays must have been worth at least 10% of my spend anyhow!
