Me!

I've made a rather nice set of windows for my house, the upstairs of which is 4 transoms over 4. The 4 centre ones are fixed casements the 4 outer ones were intended to be openers.

My joinery is good, the design sympathetic, but when I came to fitting the espags I discovered that I had somehow managed to make two lefthanders, instead of a left and right. Gutted, I carefully filled in the groove and various holes and routed out the other side instead.

Today we've come to fit the glass only to discover... I was right the first time! Not only did I waste hours fixing a non-mistake and cutting unnecessary grooves and drilling new but superfluous holes, but I've got to do it all again to get me back where I started! I could weep.

So instead I've decided to forget it, just have one egress window and fix the bodged one permanently. It'll look the same from outside and nobody will ever know.

I think that's called a double-reverse-anti-non-cockup cockup.

#-o Oh dear Steve. I bet there were a few expletives to be heard. I feel for you mate.

What is it you say, Steve...

"Right first time, every time." - ?

 :D

Oh well, I'm sure it's easily done. Doubt you'll be the last to do it either! :)

Glad to have provided amusement :?
Actually, Wizer, I did LOL.

It wouldn't be so bad but I'm absolutely knackered. I have worked every single day for the last month. My respect for prof joiners has risen considerably as it is quite different stuff to the furniture-making skills that I am comfortable with. I think I've spent a week fitting espags!

On top of that I had to finish a cabinet in a hurry for Nick's mag, and help a friend set up and strike an art exhibition, which involves jumping through lots of Council hoops to register my car to park at a particular place on a particular day at a particular time to unload and load 100 paintings, only to have an argument with a ********* traffic warden at 8.45am about the legitimacy of my parking and the threat of a £60 fine. They really couldn't organize a party in a brewery. I could rant all day, but I'll exercise my month's ration of self-restraint.

Back to the windows - If anyone else had done what I have done, I'd call them incompetent careless idiots. But the boot is most definitely on the other foot.

I've got a few more photos on the Build thread, I'll try to get them up soon. It's looking good (if you don't know the dirty grisly bits...)

Oh dear Steve, Not even the Domino could fix that one. Know what you mean though done it myself on more than one occasion.

Steve, your mistake is probably due to overwork and rushing to get things finished rather than anything else. I've been machining beading for my workshop windows today and in rushing to finish them cut them to the wrong length. Luckily after only cutting 4 lengths I had a phone call and had to pack up. While planning what to do tomorrow I realised my mistake so 3 hours work hasn't gone to waste. Call it a senior moment :D

Least you managed to save it Steve =D> . Last time I did something like this, one was firewood

There's a lot to be said for upvc replacements.

OK, I'll do one.

Steve,

Thanks for sharing that!
Many would have kept quiet

Its good to know that even "experts" like you **** up at times.

However - I've a nasty feeling you will regret leaving as it is.
I know my own "mistakes" hit me between the eyes every time I pass them.
