Hi Jake

There is a spare way in the CU that has a (I think) a 32 amp MCB. Would this be better for the ring and then use a type C 16 amp just for the saw?

regards

I reckon that's a better solution all round, as you are not downgrading your protection on the rest of the sockets.

I assume the rest of the ring is run in 2.5mm - is it on the surface, or buried? Normally this would be 32A (which would give you a bit more headroom for running say extractor and another machine at the same time.

A radial for the saw in 2.5mm t&e would be fine assuming its a surface run.

(most probably 2.5 will be OK for a 16A and a 32A ring even if its not on the surface, but if eg it is run through insulation, you'll need some calcs done to check it).

Okay, I got a type C 16 amp breaker today and have now fitted it and the saw works fine.

I think what I'll do now though is use that 16 amp C type on its own circuit and put the ring on the 32 amp. All the wiring is on the surface BTW.

Hope I've understood all this correctly

Thanks for your guidance guys,

regards

Brian
