Hi!

I am looking for a best-fit dust extractor for my workshop. Ideally it should be able to handle power tools like routers and mitre saws but also my P/T.

Does such a device exist? What's my best bet? Your advice appreciated!

Thanks

I've got a Record Power DX4000 which I bought to use as an all-in-one solution. My thinking went something like this: it's able to pull a good vacuum so it'll work for power tools and it can shift a lot of air so it'll be ok for the P/T. Also, it's got a decent sized bin so again it shouldn't be too much of a chore to use with the P/T.

Did it it work? Well, a year on I haven't felt the need to get another dust extractor so it must be doing pretty well but it's not perfect. The machine is dual motor which is a bit of a mixed blessing really. I haven't measured it but it seems pretty clear to me that when only one motor is running a lot of power is wasted sucking air through the second motor so you pretty much need to have both motors running all the time. That's a shame because most power tools only really need the suction that one of the motors could give. I also find that the motors get surprisingly warm when used with power tools due to the reduced air flow. It's great at chip extraction from the P/T though due to the fairly high flow rate (for this type of extractor).

I've used one of the smaller single motor RP extractors with a P/T as well (RSDE2 I think) - it was just about able to cope with the P/T if you took it steady.

A Camvac will do all that you need...I use a 386 twin motor jobbie with a 100mm port but there are less expensive options in the product range - Rob

Thanks for your help. Does the DX4000/DX5000 have two ports for 100mm and hand held power tools?

No, it has just a single 100mm port but I found a deal which included with the accessory kit for free (I believe the item code for the kit is: RPWRSDEA). The accessory kit is necessary addition if you want to use it with power tools as it provides a reducer (to 40mm IIRC), a good length of hose and a power tool adaptor fitting.
