I have been making some of these, and several other designs, from steamed beech, as it seem to be the easiest wood to carve, they are done on my CNC machine, I have been experimenting with different finishes, all hand finishes, and a final wax polish finish, I have been thinking of trying an air brush instead as it might be easier and give a better finish, it is hard getting in to all the nooks and crannys with a small brush and then buffing afterwards, they seem to look better with a gloss finish or at least a satin finish, has anyone got any tips on what finish to use and would an airbrush help

If you use an air brush, unsure you have a water trap fitted_ otherwise you could get water in with the product you are using
If you mean airbrush over airgun sprayer I would use a waterbased varnish for airbrushes. You will probably need a larger needle and nozzle because it tends to be a little bit thicker than airbrush paint.

Why not use a wax/oil finish (Osmo) and then buff? They look small enough to be dipped in a can of oil, rather than brushed, which would get into the nooks and crannies.
Thank you all for your advice, I will try the Osmo first because I would like to finish by hand, as it saves all the trial and error on how to use an airbrush
I would have thought shellac might be good.

I used the airbrush for finishing a lot of small items off the scroll saw. Very easy to control.
A polyurethane worked OK, quick drying.
Just a hassle cleaning the equipment with turps or white spirits.
I use a very small compressor with no storage tank, direct feed.

Thanks, Fergie, I have tried Shellac sanding sealer and with 2 coats, sanding with a mop in a cordless drill between coats and finishing with a wax polish is exactly the finish I was looking for, and they can be completed in 1 day , thanks to everyone for your help
