Hi, I am currently making a work bench, which is going pretty well. I have a front vice at one side, and an end vice. For the end vice, I have used a veritas tail vice thread, as when i set out on the project, i thought that I would make a wagon type vice. However, I have since changed my mind about this, as I could not find a design that was easy enough and also I thought that while it was cool, I probably would not use it that much. So, I have just used the thread to make an end mounted vice. However, obviously, the thread and the cheek revolve around each other, so I need 1 or 2 rods or guides so the jaw closes without spinning or going out of square if something is gripped off centre.
I wondered what you would suggest as the best way to achieve this. I could use metal or wood, but wondered what the relative merits might be, and wether I should use tubular or square sections, and what I might easily make the guides out of.
I know there are some good bench guides out there, but I dont have any of those books.
