Hi All

I have a narrow access laneway down the side of my house, about 1.2m gap from the outer leaf of my house to the party garden wall.

I plan on installing some metal box profile roofing onto 4x2 pressure treated lumber on the house wall, obviously with a fall, to some arrangement at the garden wall side consisting of a gutter.

The plan is to house some solid fuel, so I need only a roof structure, no requirement for sides/back/door.

What I am not sure on is how to correctly apply flashing at the house, and how to support the roof on the garden wall side.

Also what consumables would be advisable for such a job in addition to the obvious items such as the roof itself, gutter/downpipe and pressure treated timber?

Thanks as always

I did a job last year similar to what you are proposing.

It was a bit more than 1.2m, I think maybe 1.8 ish.

I concreted in 4 by 4 fence posts and screwed a 2 by 4 to the wall. then used more 2 by 4s to connect said posts to the wall plate, covered with 11mm osb and then green mineral felt.

Afraid I can't help with the flashing, as I told the customer I wasn't qualified to do it, so he had it done after.

Thanks Artie. Here's my arrangement, I probably don't need the fence posts

Flashing serves the function of making the junction between a roof and a wall (in this case) watertight. However, if that junction is in a location which doesn't ever get wet, then it isn't necessary. If you make the lean-to roof such that the top edge is high up under the eaves of the house roof it would be quite unlikely to ever get wet.
