iMacs ae not immune to overheating, it depends what you do with them - like all machines. Most machines these days will protect themselves by shutting down when the CPU temperatre reaches a certain point. This happens before any damage is caused by overheating. Our work Dells won't start if a non-working fan is detected. Older machines were not designed for modern software so naturally they'll work harder to support it than newer machines will. Thus they'll get hotter, coupled with years of dust and fans whose lubricant has long dried out and you'll hear the fan going more, it might even fail to supply enough cooling and the OS/BIOS will shut it down to preven overheating.
 
It crossed my mind. Ads seems to be a main source of revenue for the "free" web. Maybe another model will emerge?
