Advent calendar

Hey folks,

With Christmas just around the corner, I took a break from making tool holders, and tried to use up as many offcuts as I could making an advent-calendar's worth of little things for my wife.

But the most exciting to me started off as an offcut from the garden a couple of years ago. No idea what sort of wood it is, but hopefully its moisture levels etc have stabilised well enough that it will survive at least the next 6 months.

I cut a small reindeer's worth off the end, and roughly planed all 4 sides of it.

That was enough that I could safely cut a cuboid out on the bandsaw.

Then I could mark if up ready to become a reindeer.

I wasn't keen on the greenish tint that danish oil seemed to turn on whatever this wood is, so I used a clear spray lacquer instead. I put some nails in some plywood for it to sit on while I was spraying it.

Nicely done! The wood looks like holly.

I thought the wood looked like hawthorn or possibly blackthorn.
