We still have the same problem today, we thought our products were so good and we were selling to an almost captive audience that we just did not keep pushing design and technology forwards and were happy to sit on our hands without noticing the competition was closing in. Today we still think we are so great we can dictate to others and have an influence on the world stage and will crash as a result.the problem was a degree of complacency,
Yes the unions did become to powerful and it did become a case of the tail waging the dog for no other reason than they could but without them where would we be today, a fair days work deserves a fair days pay in a decent working enviroment. The question to ask is what role should they play today, what would happen if they did not exist for say our railways?
