I was in penneyfarthing tools today and saw a very big plane. It was on the floor, it measures nearly 2 meters in length and is in excess of 60 kgs. It is a coopers plane, there is a large stand angled at about 30 degrees and the plane is supported upside down and the wood for the barrel is taken to the plane. I assume coopering is now done on a machine as no one would now be strong enough to use this monster. Its yours for £285 ono.

Two of the 3 woodkateers are going to be passing through Salisbury sometime next week and a visit to Pennyfarthing Tools might well be on the agenda. Couldn't give us direction details could you?

WAKA, Follow the signs to the central car park £1 an hour, a railway line runs on one side of the car park, with your back to the railway line walk towards the market square (MC) which is over a river, the MS is opposite tesco's and the library. On the far side of the MS next to blue boar road (big wide road) there is a map showing major roads and streets, you are looking for penneyfarthing street. Just off the MS North East corner you will see on a corner a shop that is being restored in traditional OAK (worth a look). You should be able to see a Mcdonalds walk down that street(straight on from Blue boar road until you come to Penney farthing street, turn right and pennyfarthing tools is at the end on your right.

I've seen that plane in PFT for a number of years now, sits on the floor of the shop all on its own. If two of the three woodkaters are in Salisbury over the next few days, you are welcome to call in for some munchies and coffee. PM me if interested. The shop in oak is definitely an eye catcher, straight out of the Middle Ages, but brand new - Rob

Ermmmm - the plane sits on a tall trestle at one end so it's at angle to the floor with the mouth uppermost and the cooper passes the timber across the mouth of the p-lane - not the other way round  Even coopers aren't that strong
