A sharpening I haven;t seen before?

It looks like a swept back grind. Also know as a Irish, Celtic or Long grind. The Ellesworth grind is based on this but with a 60 degree angle at the front with a parabolic flute. This grind has been around since the 90's and similar to the one I use all the time.

That's the use of a convex bevel rather than hollow ground or flat. With a convex bevel you are less likely to get a catch. It's normally ground by hand because as far as I'm aware there is only one jig available for creating a convex bevel and it's not widely known about.
