from largest to smallest they are: burr elm, figured beech, Irish walnut, rippled sycamore and bog oak. the largest is 7" high
this project has not been easy for me as i have had issues with proportion and scale and i also dislike measuring my turnings but i belive its came out o.k

Well done George, certainly a distinct change in direction to your normal free form work, I can imagine the quiet mutterings to self that went on during the prolonged selection of woods, control of grain matching and dimension checking.

That is not only attractive but clever. I too hate measuring and so avoid things like this like the plague. Lovely work

Pete

very nice work, the figure in the elm is lovely...and you will have given the calipers an outing :)

Lovely boxes George.
Must admit I do envy you guys who have the time to spend in your shops.
I need to retire....
Steve

Lovely work there George, as you say a bit of a change of direction from your normal stuff.

I see your not an advocate of the 1/3rd or 2/5th rule.

thanks for all your kind comments.
 yes chas there was allot of muttering especially trying to find a piece of burr elm big enough and when the two spalted beech box's failed
i am normally a fan Tam but when i roughed these out to dry i decided to keep it simple and go with halfs as the size of the bigger box's would have made square corners even harder if i had used 1/3rds

Lovely display of wood there George, especially the burr elm and ripple sycamore. :)

Can't say much, there but WOW. Do have a leaning to the figured beach. You could IMO have used yew but I do like yew so that's me. I can just see you planing the next with curves!!!. Merry Christmas and ho ho ho.

Hi George,

I love them boxes, in particular the walnut and the burr elm.

Hope you don't mind me posting this in your thread, but the Irish woodturners guild had a competition at the last national seminar for nested boxes.

I think i can count 30 !

If you dislike calipers look away now !!!!
