P.s i am very very impressed with your website, who do you work for in birmingham?

Too long a day for me that was! The client, a tv channel, chose the colours. I don't work for a company in Birmingham anymore, I work for a furniture company in the black country.

After a very brief looksee it's difficult to comment as the the pics are too big and too grainy :( - Rob

The colours do nothing for me. But the design is right up my street. Can you explain the 'laminating' process? what materials are involved and methods?

The pics could do with resizing. They're even slow to load on my super duper fast (yeh right) Virgin 10mb.

The colours are what was specified by the client.

The actual laminating was done using spray contact adhesive. The laminates were cut 10mm bigger than the MDF they were going to be stuck to. The front edge done first, and the sides done one after the other.

In between putting sides on and such, each piece was cleaned up first. Using a makita laminate trimmer to get the laminate almost flush. Then finishing with a smooth file. To clean up the side to the front edge piece, the file was on a slight angle and until it was cut flush. Then on a steeper angle, just a quick pass with the file to take off the sharp edge.

The actual construction. The carcass was made up alone, without the base.
The inner parts were made up before hand, in T or H sections. The sides were screwed together, before laminating that side. So screws were hidden, the rest was either screwed thru the top, sides or base. And other loose pieces were just dowelled together.

Hope that goes some way to explaining it.....?

Bob, my download of the first link above took less than ONE second and I only have the cheapest virgin broadband cable service. Its got to be your virus/spyware program you are using. Try a brief spell with the virgin virus protection?

Sorry about the hijack, I think that bookcase is super but I trust it is not just one piece, or is it?

It is just one piece, although what the photo doesn't show you is that there will be sliding frosted glass doors in front of the first three. Apparently there may be more to make in the future if they like this one.

It would have been a quiet 3 days of work, however with the machinists working away in the shop still, the CNC machine can make quite a bit of noise sometimes.
