This is interesting-a mechanic friend of mine used to smear some type of grease onto the battery terminals on the trucks he worked on I assumed it was to stop the nut seizing. I also came across this yesterday which sounds like it might work for the op

He probably used 'Copa-slip' grease on the terminals, as was done throughout the motor trade. It stopped the 'green-slimey-powdery' stuff {verdigris] forming.

Yes, then Copa-slip came along, which was much easier to obtain - Motor Factors didn't supply vaselene, one would get some funny comments asking for it! Saying that I've still got a part used pot of it, purchased from a pharmacy 40 years ago.
