Thanks Yes, I did that: the tips are hollow ground which (assuming it's ground with the bit near the tip on a tangent to the grinding wheel, which I was careful to do) has the effect of making the tip parallel.

Thank you. Yes. I printed it out on a piece of paper and stuck it to the wood with masking tape, then used a knife to transfer the lines and a couple of chisels to form the shape.

That's a terrible idea. I've bought loads of antique tools from car boot sales. If people can't sell old tools, they'll end up in the bin. The stuff that gets nicked will get sold via other means so it won't make any difference to theft, just result in more waste. The petition's specifically...

I bought the 5" Knew fret saw with the swivel blade clamps. It's excellent: I hated using fret saws before I bought that one. If I were buying again, I'd go with the 3" model: the swivel blade clamps mean that you don't really need the extra depth of the 5" body (at least for anything I do)...

I just poured some white spirit in & left it for 20 minutes. Doesn't seem to have affected it at all.

I used the 5-cut method on mine (after I got a comment from a member on another forum questioning whether it would be accurate enough). The 5-cut method showed it was more accurate than I could measure. I didn't permanently fix the fence with wood screws though, I just use three M6 cap screws...

A simple M33×3.5 thread protector for my home-made lathe: I made it hexagonal just to make it easy to grip to screw it on / unscrew it. I would arguably have been better with a knurled pattern, but hexagonal was quicker to model in CAD.
