Can you help with heat damage on veneered surface

Cabinetman, it has been my experience that pva and sawdust always dries dark, maybe not black, but definitely dark, hence my reluctance to smoosh that in the crack. I'm wondering if Superglue and sawdust might be a better ?

Can you help with heat damage on veneered surface

Hi, I have a piece I made over 10 years ago that has a lot of sentimental value for me, both in terms of who I got the timber from and who I made it for. It stood the test of time real well but has had hair straighteners left on all day which has caused a small area of damage. The veneers have...

Bending 7mm thick white oak trim around rounded shelf corner

As others have said, if you laminate thinner pieces together you should be OK. I have pre bent thin strips before using a wet cloth and an iron. Put the wet cloth where you want the bend and apply the iron, the steam will make the strips pliable. If you do this you won't be bending them as much...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Recently completed these in my living room workshop. Drawers were a nice fit but have gone a bit sticky due to humidity... With hindsight I should have used something like Fiddes Hard Wax Oil on the drawer sides instead of paint. Oh well, you live and learn.

A question about fitting sash windows

Hi Jacob, thanks for replying, I do mean the top, sides and bottom of the sill that are out of sight.... I made a lot of furniture before but this is my first attempt at windows so it's all very new to me. So I can just leave the outside of the frame treated with preserver? No paint? The windows...

A question about fitting sash windows

So hypothetically speaking, if one were to remake and replace some completely rotten, 40 year old timber sash windows - in their own private dwelling, would the window frames need to be painted on the outside where they sit into the opening?, do they need to be painted at all? Would bitumen...

Is there a secret to punching masonry nails?

Stupid question I know, but is there a special technique for punching masonry nails below the surface of a skirting board - just enough to allow for filler. Does it need a really big punch and a lump hammer? Try as I might with a 20 oz Estwing and the biggest punch I've got, can't sink the nail...

    Spraying 2k paint at home?

Have you considered over lacquering your your work with a water based lacquer? Becker Acroma have a w/b product in an ultra gloss sheen, called Lacroma Clear. Don't know if it's as good as a wet look PU lacquer but might do the job without the fumes and associated hassle.

    Compatibility issues using precat primer

Looking for a little advice here. Big job in mostly MDF which is to be painted in a farrow & ball colour. There will be a lot of painting involved, in the hope of speeding it up, I am considering spraying the job with precatilysed primer for ease of application and speed of drying, and also in...

    GENERAL OPINION OF bOSCH TOOLS

Don't rate them personally. I bought a Gas 25 vacuum, blue and expensive, needed new brushes after about two months, not covered under warranty. Control panel burnt out after two and half years, uneconomical repair. Got a brand new replacement under 3 year warranty (always make sure you register...

    a poorer and wiser man

You could always look at similar items and their p&p charges to get a feel for how much people will pay and then decide whether it's worth entering them on eBay. There's also the option to view recently completed auctions to give an idea of a reserve. Food for thought anyway.

    Sash clamps

Has anyone used the sash cramps from Rutland's? The ones 'made in the same factory as the leading brand'? Just wondered if they are as good as record 135's, 'cause if they are you might be as well getting half a dozen of them, nearly always on sale for a reasonable £69.95
