    the perfick bevel

The polishing mop will definitely round over the edge. I use a piece of MDF smeared with a thin film of Autosol metal polish, available from your local Halfords or other other supplier of motoring accesories.

    Veritas Angle setting gauge

If you mean the diamond shaped thing that comes with the tool rest, I binned mine pretty quickly...couldn't get on with it at all. I bought the Tormek Pro-anglemaster instead. At £11 it's not too dear and so easy to use. Veritas kit is usually top class, and the grinder tool rest is great, but...

    Big Bang

I was half expecting Steven Hawking rather than Steven Maskery to be the author of this thread  Glad to hear that you found a low cost solution to the problem and managed to acquire a new :tool: in the process.

    Computer desk

I know that B&Q sell drawer slides specifically for keyboard drawers. They look pretty much like regular double extension slides.

My first try on planemaking - a shoulder plane

That is a really nice plane Pekka. Is the "frog" also made of steel?

    Workshop wood burning stove

Sorry to hear that you may not be able to use your stove. Are you in a smoke-free zone? As was said in another thread about working from home in your garage, you're probably better just doing it and wait to see if any of the neighbours complain. Of course, you have alerted the council to the...

    Concealed hinges

Here are the Ikea ones. It might go against the grain to shop there but sometimes it's hard to beat their prices.

    What paint?

I have a wood surround (pine) on my open flame gas fire...similar distance from the fire as yours and with the fire on high it doesn't even get warm to the touch, so any type of paint should be fine.

    Concealed hinges

I have an IKEA store a couple of miles from home and they sell pairs of Blum 120 degree hinges for £2.

What is the best direction to cut bathroom worktop?

I would always cut into the front edge rather than out of it because that way the laminate is supported by the body of the worktop in the cut.

    BAndsaw problems

I've just done a quick search and found this thread, which may answer my question. It states that a 25 thou stretch of the blade equals 15,000 psi tension (measured using a digital caliper clamped to the blade). I'm not an engineer or materials scientist so I have no idea if the stretch is the...

    Advice please

I'd keep the big door operational for the reasons given above, though you might think about some additional security (a couple of internal bolts with padlocks maybe). I certainly need to open mine for infeed space on the tablesaw, plus light and fresh air when the weather permits.

    BAndsaw problems

I occasionally build bicycle wheels and I check for even spoke tension by plucking them and listening to the tone. I don't have a particularly good ear for music but I can spot one or two out of 32 that sound a bit flat compared to the rest. Unfortunately there are no comparators on the bandsaw...

    BAndsaw problems

Before this thread fades away I'd like to ask a question about blade tension, if I may. I fairly recently acquired this bandsaw from fellow forum member P111dom. It is fairly old and cast iron everything but it has no indicator of blade tension. Is there a rule of thumb for setting the tension...

    Router Table advice

I built my own router table from the plans in "Woodworking with the Router" by Bill Hylton and Fred Matlack. It probably cost me the best part of £100 when I add up the cost of a sheet of birch ply (now nearly £50 on its own) and a 10' x 4' sheet of laminate for the top. I was lucky enough to...

Best place to buy Mitre T Track and Laminate for Work Top?

I got my laminate from a local timber merchant, Lawsons Timber in Edinburgh. Not much use to you, I know, but the point I trying to make is that places that supply to the joinery trade can probably get it for you even if they don't keep a stock. I paid about £33 for a 10' x 4' sheet a couple of...

    Cheap Dewalt DW703

I bought a DW703 last year from B&Q, cost £169 and I thought that was a good price. The saw is well made and fully adjustable to get it cutting spot-on, although mine was pretty close right out of the box. The only downside with these saws, apart from the 24t blade, is that all the workholding...

    Triton 2000 workcentre assembly trouble

When I put my WC2000 together, I found, as Argee suggests, that you need to assemble things with the bolts fairly loose so as to give yourself some "wiggle room" to all the bolts in. From my own experience and from reading the Aussie Woodforums Triton owners and users section, most set-up...

    How much tension?

Another happy Dragon customer here. I ordered a couple of blades at 11 am and they arrived in Scotland at 10 am next day. This is the first time I have used Dragon so time wil tell how good the blades are but first impressions are very good...nice clean weld and they cut very nicely. Not got the...

    carcasses and tables saws

That is a very smart idea, sort of rod and template combined. I too use replaceable blade router cutters for trimming edges. a 50 mm worktop bit will do a fair run of edging, seems tougher than regular tungsten carbide and the blades are reversible. I can recommend the Wealden ones, good vfm.
