    Belt sander

I have never got on with belt sanders, I find them too keen to run away in use or potentially dig in. Plus the Bosch one I have doesn't have great dust control. I use an ROS and alter the grit as needed. Cheers Tim

    Clothing protection?

I can sometimes be found in the workshop in a dressing gown - lighting the burner before breakfast. It has been awkward to open the door to come face to face with a delivery man! I wear mainly quite hardweariing stuff like Carrhart which I get when I have been in Canada or have bought on line...

Out of interest, how does this thread not contravene Forum rule 6 - no political discussion? Cheers Tim

    Blum Tandem Drawer Slides

Slim Is it possible that you have the runners mounted in the wrong place ie too far back into the cabinet? If you do then the drawer will slam. Cheers Tim

    High Chair Construction Queries

I concur with previous comments. I would also ditch the drawer slides. What are they really achieving? The table needs to be removable for cleaning; there will be the hardware for the slides on the inside of the seat side where the occupant will be, which will provide sharp edges and all...

    Unbelievable carving

This link was posted on another forum. I don't know if its visible to non subscribers but worth a look because it is simply incredible: http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/ ... show=30250 While the voice over is bland (to say the least) its worth hearing to inform the pics Cheers Tim

    Spare Richard Burbidge spindles

Because I can't count I have a couple of dozen 900mm (32mm sect), stop chamfer spindles spare from recently replacing my staircase. They are factory primed and are hardwood - by the look of it, tulipwood. They aren't that light so collection may be the only option. I'm not after payment...

    Hello from Aberdeen

Welcome to the forum Charlie. Nice pics - your assistant looks like she will be always in the way - just like she should be. I'm fitting a new set of balustrades at home at the mo and one of my labs keeps following me up and down all the time as i get new parts and tools. How we both...

    Advertising in F&C

Richard I think it'll all depend on the price - it will take some months to get awareness as well. I suppose it also depends on your pricing too. My thought is that the return on investment may be a close run thing but worth exploring. Cheers Tim

    Restoring old furniture

Is there a 'Dummies Guide - Knowing your limits'? Seriously, I can't help with a recommendation and I would be very surprised if there was a book out there that it wasn't just a DIY reference rather than one that dexribes the nuances between cleaning and removing any valuable patina...

    Discounts at Travis Perkins

Dan I have a tradecash card. It gives you online access to 'your' pricing and discount structure. I have generally found that if you push them they will discount further but not much. It depends on the range/ products but it varies between 25% and 40%. Cheers Tim

Recomendations for a quality workshop vac

I have a festool 33 in the w/s with a boom arm which I take on site when I have lots of work to do in situ. Its great and the boom arm while expensive is really useful. Because of all the stuff I'm doing in the house right now I needed another machine to do similar work. I got the Trend...

    F&C Editors choice 2007

Does anybody else find the omissions in the F&C tool review extraordinary. I appreciate that these things are heavily sponsored but to ignore clear leaders in categories is very odd. Too much Draper by far, surprising no mention of Metabo Duo in the ROS section and no mention of Festool at...
