    Triton Router Problem

The problem that occurred with andpartington has also just occurred with me. I heard a strange note and knew that I wasn't overloading the cutter. Stopping the router (in the table btw) I could see that the collet was loose. I assumed that it was the cutter loose in the collet but its the...

Can i remove the guard from a table saw?

I would say that with either a band saw or a tablesaw that you are going to have difficulty. Firstly you'll need a workspace over 12m long and secondly a whole bunch of supports if you are going to get issues with the plank waggling and taking a bit out of your already very narrow strips. I...

Excellent stuff - you should both be very proud! =D> =D> =D> There was always going to be a genetic advantage conferred with Teddy having you AND gluegirl for grandparents! Cheers Tim

    Kitchen design finally started

Do you really need all those wall cupboards? If you don't then don't put them in - they take up a lot of space and make the kitchen feel much smaller. I always try to persuade customers to reduce the number of wall cabs because they are often unnecessary (but everyone has them  ) and...

    Excessive packaging or useless junk?

It depends on what you are using them for. The systainers are pretty much the only ones I keep and I often buy systainer cases for the non festool tools. The reason is that they stack, clipped together and as a result are easier to move from workshop to worksite and be well protected when they...

    Plastering...Black Art or nae?

Apart from 1the odd patching, its one of the few jobs that I wont do myself. Its messy, time consuming and irksome when it doesn't look as good as you want it to. We had a large room completely reskimmed not very long ago - three guys 1/2 a day £150. Why would you do it yourself? Cheers Tim

    Holmes on Homes

If labour is only 50% of a job price then your labour is undercharged! Most jobs are at least 75% labour. Cheers Tim

    Holmes on Homes

Andy I agree with you. I also wonder what the difference in the original budget/ amount paid by the customer and the bill that the Holmes team presents to the TV channel. Methinks it would make the customers have second thoughts if this was the number first quoted! Cheers Tim

    A Scottish question

There isn't much point asking us really - we aren't going to be there. Your best bet is to talk to your future son in law - or better still get your daughter to sound him out because he may feel obliged to the father of the bride but would be able to speak his mind to her. Congratulations btw...

Got my new axminster catalogue but have a question

It won't work! The riving knife is twice as wide as the cut you are trying to slide passed it. It might work if the timber is very thin and flexes past the knife but anything more rigid will jam or stop. Dangerous and foolish to do.

Kitchen Table in maple - finished!

Very nice Chris! =D> =D> =D> Do you have a problem with rocking at all, with four legs rather than three? I'm assuming any deviation in the flatness of the floor rather than your workmanship  What's the finish? Cheers Tim

...and now for the mitre saw stand...

I have one too but I would not suggest it as a useful workshop tool but great for sitework or outside. IMO the footprint is too big in the workshop. It is well balanced and easy to carry, but the stand has to sit with the handle uppermost when folded (or it rocks on it). This means that it...
