Should have taken a bigger suitcase!

Glad I could help you spend your money, Gidon   - although it was very depressing seeing just how little everything cost! Looks like you had fun at Woodcraft  Cheers, Neil (hoping I'm allowed to go to a conference in San Diego in June after seeing this lot!)

1/2" Router advice please : Axminster or Dewalt or ???

The Makita 3612CX which Axminster stocks does have soft start. Be careful if you are comparing prices - the 3612 is single speed, whereas the 3612C has variable speed. The X just means that it comes in a case. Would definitely be my choice from the 4 you listed (in fact, it was!) Cheers, Neil

    Double Glazing Condensation question

Commiserations, Chris, I have the same problem. I don't think you have much option but to replace the affected units - this is what I've done in the past. As Paul says, at least this is an option with wooden windows! My house has double-glazed six-over-six sash windows, so a total of 20 X 12...

    Trend T5

According to the guy I bought it off, the slipping bit happened the first time he used it! I'll get a new collet at some stage and see what difference it makes. I had a good chuckle at your story - I reckon we all know someone like that!  Cheers, Neil

    Trend T5

Hi Andy, Sorry, I didn't write this very clearly. Its not the number of turns between the two locks (the Makita I have has this type of collet tool) its the number of turns once you get to the final lock point - the Makita needs maybe 1/2 turn, the Trend needs at least 2. Its possible that...

    Trend T5

I bought a T5 from another forum member for about £60 with some nice Trend & Freud bits thrown in. At that price I'm glad to have it, but I must say I'm very under whelmed by it and I'm surprised that there have been a lot of positive reviews over the years. All I have to compare it to are my...

Interesting pieces of furniture - 6

A slightly clearer pic: I love this piece - in fact I suggested it to Tony but someone obviously beat me to it! I can't imagine many pieces which would be more difficult to make than this one. If you pull that off you'll really have my admiration, Tony! Cheers, Neil

    Incra vs Dovetail Jig

There’s really not much point getting anything larger than the Ultra-Lite IMO - 12.5" is plenty of travel unless you make an absolutely gargantuan router table, and I can't think of many times that you would need even that much distance from cutter to fence - bear in mind that the Incra isn't...

Importing direct vs buying from UK importers

Maybe this says more about this particular importer than about the potential savings when importing from the US in general? Cheers, Neil

Interesting pieces of furniture - 4

Well, I suggested this piece to Tony. A very interesting (polarised) response! I don't think that using Rosewood is critical to the success of the piece, although I think it would have to be a dark wood to work well. Also I think it needs a high shine on the bevelled edge. I'm relieved to...

    Trend Tenion & Mortise jig

Hi May-Brith, DM-Tools have it for £149.95 (only 30 half-litres of Hansa unless its gone up even more since I was last in Norway!) although I think their postage charge for Norway will be horrendous. Axminster Power Tools have it for £170, but their international carriage rates are excellent...
