    Steak board in Oak?

Thank you very much Paul, for the very concise and full answers. Shame about the Oak as I have plenty and no Beech but I guessed that might be the case. Thanks again.

    Steak board in Oak?

Hi all and happy new year, I have a couple of questions about steak boards like these http://www.arthurwalton.co.uk/catering- ... rds/sb2400 a) should these be end grain up as with butchers boards or is it fine 'long grain'? b) would Oak be a suitable subitute for Beech and c) what oil would be...

    Magnets for small cabinets

I've just done that very thing with rare earth magnets on small cabinets and they work a treat. Strong enough to pull the door shut as themagnets get close, but not too strong to open them with ease. Bought them on eBay and there's a varity of sizes.

    Saw Sharpening

Hi everyone, Thanks for your replies. I feel a bit stupid now...should've been the first place I looked as I've seen Matthew's utube offerings!! You're right Alf (as usual) couldn't be much easier to choose. And you're right Lanemaux, I should've gone to the handtools section. I'll the hang of...

    Saw Sharpening

Hi All, About a year ago I bought 2 old but nice looking saws (1 tenon, 1 dovetail). Unfortunately I've hardly used them because they need sharpening. I've seen this done and bought myself a saw set but when I tried to file the saw teeth with my dull, cheap file very little happened #-o So my...

    Cherry sapwood

I quite like the contrast of sap wood and have used small amounts in my work for that reason. Don't completely dismiss it. But it is more susceptible to woodworm and the like than the denser heart wood.

current KD oak prices per meter/foot

Hi guys, As some of you know I live in the middle of rural France. In 1999 there was a big tempest here that flattened a lot of trees, mainly Oak, Chestnut and Cherry and the locals had a lot of them planked and stored them. So they're 11 years air dried. Last year some of the locals found out I...

current KD oak prices per meter/foot

If my maths is right that's about £1000 per m3 and £28 ft3. Not bad if it's grade A dry oak I think. :D

YOKB II - Kent Bash Gathering

Are any of the French contingent up for this? I wouldn't mind a trip across La Manche to meet some of the forum members and put a face to a name. There are a lot of factors for me to consider - wife's work schedule, kids holidays, French strikes etc.! - but in principle I wouldn't mind going and...

Welcome to the forum Chris. What a start, but as Alf said this is not the usual type of welcome here. Hang around, I don't think you'll regret it.

    Freud blade suppliers

Thanks for the feedback guys. Bob - I went on the Freud site and clicked on the 'Agents' link and it seemed to get in some loop and never provided a list. If it stops raining long enough for me to get in the workshop today I intend to strip the planner and post you the offending part. Hope...

    Freud blade suppliers

Hi, Does any know of any Freud circular saw blade suppliers other than Amazon or eBay? I've searched the net and only come up with a couple of suppliers, besides the two mentioned, but they do not stock a decent range. I'm amazed that there appears to be so few outlets doing a full or extensive...
