Hi hunggaur,

I work for a timber merchant (Whitmore's) the price per cubic foot is going to vary according to the thickness and volume you require and also if you require it delivering or not.

At the risk of hijacking the thread, can I ask Pvt-Ryan if you got that locally? I'm S Cambs, and the price you paid sounds very good.....I'd be interested to hear more!

Cheers
Graeme

Was that American white Oak for American red, a lot of things will also depend on the grade as some merchants prime quality is what others sell as a 1-2 grade. I believe American oak is now imported as FAS grade which is either 80/20 or 90/10, then there is the comsells grade and in addition to that the American red also comes in what's known as coffin grade (the clue is in the name). In addition, we shouldn't forget that there is now dimension stock, some being full to width and others being full/pulled to width... its a mine field out there! lol

Sorry I got the price wrong it was £20 ex VAT (~25x100x3000mm of walnut was £18 ex VAT)

American White.

http://www.actimber.co.uk/ really helpful guys and they even dropped it off for nothing since I live <3mile away and it wouldn't fit in the car.. :D

It's all kiln dried.

I had wanted 2 of 25x100x3000mm but the guy was a little too helpful and gave me the piece I mentioned because it worked out cheaper unfortunately I didn't have a rip saw so I've just had to buy one at £25.. Ahh well. :D

I pay £24 a cubic foot for 1" kd european here in lincolnshire, Nelson Butler at Horncastle....

Hi guys, As some of you know I live in the middle of rural France. In 1999 there was a big tempest here that flattened a lot of trees, mainly Oak, Chestnut and Cherry and the locals had a lot of them planked and stored them. So they're 11 years air dried. Last year some of the locals found out I was a woodworker and offered me the Chestnut at €400 per m3, Oak €500 per m3 and Cherry €600 m3. And believe it or I even got 2.5m3 of lower grade Oak for €400 the lot.
I'm not telling you this to boast but perhaps there's an opportunity for you to source some cheap wood. You seem to pay a lot more than I do and perhaps if you got together and chipped in for some transport I could may be get a shipment organised for you. I don't want anything out if it other than to know I've helped some fellow members. Up to you?

:p :p
