    Cascamite/Resintite etc

If you find it's too lumpy, keep mixing and it should even out. That's what I normally find, anyway. :)

    Insulation

However, hardboard is fine for covering the inside of your roof (less weight, cheaper, etc.). If you go for the white-faced stuff as well, it'll brighten up your workshop, too.

Gate build. Mortice & Tenon or Domino

You could still probably cut (some of) the mortises using the black-and-green-machine...!

    Startrite TA 1250 parts

It's a no-brainer, if you ask me! :D Especially if you haven't paid a lot of money for them. It's debatable whether even the modern Startrite machines are built to quite the same standard as the old, fully-cast iron stuff. Making your own zero-clearance insert is the way to go; no need...

    Large Wadkin bandsaws for sale

Too large for your purposes?! You just don't realise what a big bandsaw can do for you, Tommy! :D That's not a lot bigger than the one I bought (I bet it weighs even more, though). A definite bargain at £100, even if you had to spend a bit extra to get it working properly. It looks...

    Dust, dust and more dust

I agree with all that's been said, with regards to taking precautions immediately. HC's link is great and should tell you all you need to know about building a plumbed-in system. Something like the Record Power DX5000 would be ideal for your needs - or, perhaps even better would be one of the...

To me, it looks quite like meranti.

    Wadkin BFT 9in Troubles

Hi George, I think we really need some photos on this one! In the mean time, you could have a look through these two threads (both, ironically, featuring the exact same planer! :D). Not sure how it compares to your model but, it may help: One and two. What's happening with the Rojek?

    Side Table Design

Hi Mike, Thanks. :) This is the course I'm doing - here - at City of Bristol College (not far from the centre). It's classed as 'full-time'; two-days a week from September 'til the end of June. It's not cheap, either! There don't seem to be many course like this around... I think...

Sharpening card scraper with the Vertias variable burnisher?

If you don't have any stones, do you have any fine wet and dry paper? Stick a bit on to some MDF and you'll probably get a similar result. I usually find I can fold the burr back over on itself three or four times before I have to get the file out - it's something I've seen Mick Hudson...

    Couple of Backsaws.

Looks like a nice job, even though you don't appear to have any 'before' photos. :)

    Creusen without the Bruisin'!

Great job! :) I used to have an 8in Record Power grinder and that would take about three-minutes to run down after switching off. Most grinders seem to be like this. I think it's a H&S requirement that they're not braked; probably something to do with the forces bringing it all to a halt too...

    wood movement

It's actually on my old blog (the one on this site, not WordPress), which has been inaccessible since the last forum revamp, a few months ago. One day, I might bother to re-write it all... I'm also in favour of stack-laminating the boards on edge; face to face. You can get a top that's...

brushes for axminster awsms10 mitre slide saw

Have you tried calling or e-mailing Axminster directly? Brushes shouldn't cost much at all and it's worth trying a new set before you start taking the saw apart (!). I suppose the downside is the postage cost (unless you're also ordering other things?), which could quite possibly outweigh the...

Is my garage suitable for a workshop

I like the idea but, a second door would almost certainly have to go at the other end wall, as most garages are only about 2.1m tall at the sides. Not enough room for a lintel and anyone over 5ft tall would have to squeeze under it. Unless you fancied a lot of extra work re-arranging the roof...

    Side Table Design

Thanks again, Dave. :) I do think you're right about the top - the book-matched veneer would echo the near-book-matching of the seat (I wanted to make it from two pieces but, together, the two weren't quite wide enough! :x). The two straight lipping should be straight-forward enough, even with...

    Small Bread Bin - WIP

Good progress. Nice to see hand tools being used. Bet the glue doesn't take long to go off in this weather! To stop your thumbs from 'burning' and blistering while using a scraper, you could try holding a bit of abrasive paper between your thumbs and the scraper.

    Thinking of upgrading my SCMS

Another good thing about the LS1013 is that they've come down in price recently - you should still be able to get one new for about £350 (unless you 'need' the laser model), while they were closer to £500 a few years ago.

Let the world in or Shut the Sun out?

That's a good point. I do the same thing - it also helps to "maximise" space in the workshop (at the expense of space indoors...). But, the fact is, people are unlikely to run away with a planer/thicknesser or bandsaw weighing anything from 70kg plus - at least not without a second pair...

    Pedestal table WIP - Finished!

Excellent. :) That sounds like a lot of work to get a finish but, it looks superb. Note how even and clean the reflection is on the top - always a good sign! Look forward to seeing your next project.
