    Noisey WS3000 sharpener

You're quite right; you can only fit one abrasive disc to the slotted, vision wheel. As for storing the used ones, I'm sad enough to hold on to the backing paper that is removed from the discs you are using... That's what I use to keep them clean. I'd assume that they viewed the vision...

    Table/rip saw. Advice please!

Didn't realise Axminster were also now selling this larger saw with and without the add-ons - it's another favourite around here although, the price of the full kit (including extension and sliding table) has put a lot of people off in the last couple of years. You do get a lot more cast iron...

    Thanks for the assistance

That's a highly impressive haul for a hobby woodworker - hope we get to see plenty of photos once it's all setup!! ;-)

    Just finished this......

Really like the design. Will you be able to get any photos once the artefact is in position?

    Drawer construction question

I'm assuming that your drawers are going to be between 500-600mm wide so, I'd go with 12mm thick sides, if you're fronts are 18mm thick (which sounds fine). On slightly smaller scale work (a small cabinet or side table, say), I might have 16mm thick fronts with 10mm thick sides - it's all about...

    Required woodworking tools/machinery. Opinions please

I wouldn't worry too much about building your 'ultimate' router table right away - as you say; without having used one, you won't know exactly what you require from it. I don't think you'd go far wrong with one of the tables from Rutlands. If there's anything you don't like, you should be able...

    Table/rip saw. Advice please!

That Axminster TS-200 is very well regarded around here. As Axminster have recently started selling it in 'kit form' as well, it makes it more affordable, if you're someone who's prepared to build it in to its own unit - perhaps with an integrated router table on the right-hand side. I haven't...

    Quangsheng Rebating Block V2

Glad to hear that your initial impressions are high, Rob. Did you have a chance to try the V1 of this model in the forum passaround, about a year ago? That one worked really well, even though there were a couple of niggles, which I believe Matthew has since resolved with these more recent...

    band saw tryes

Scott & Sargeant may be able to help. You'll need to measure your existing tyre carefully - note the thickness as well as the width and purchase a length in excess of what you need. I can recommend this rubber-cork material - although, with the pot of glue as well, it does become a bit...

    sliding mitre saw

I've had a similar problem with my Makita LS1013 where the brake doesn't always kick in once the trigger's released. When this happens though, I usually find that opening the handle (where the trigger is) and removing any sawdust in there cures it. Don't know whether the same would work with...

    New Woodworking Job Opportunity!

It isn't the Derbyshire bit - it's the travelling the length and breadth of the country that would get me down. I totally agree with yours and the other comments on this. Spending all that time away from home and your workshop... With all the driving as well, you could easily end up 'working'...

    Dust Sniper

I'm another who feels that Bongo's done little wrong. I had a look at the Instructables site last night but couldn't see any adverts popping-up whatsoever (don't most people use pop-up and ad blockers now, anyway?). Then again, I'm a regular reader of his blog so, perhaps I'm going to be a bit...

    bandsaw question

I agree that it looks very similar to an Elektra Beckum (now Metabo) model. Another thought would be Record Power, looking at the base cabinet design.

Warning / Price hike , VAT

On a slightly more positive note, at least the Makita Plunge Saw has only gone up by £10 - and, you still get the second rail, connector and storage bag as part of the deal. Might still be able to afford one, after all. ;-) I would've expected Festool's prices to have increased more, as well...

    New Woodworking Job Opportunity!

Sounds like a great opportunity for someone (I bet they offer a good staff discount off their own tools, as well! ;-)). If I was a lot closer to Derbyshire, I'd consider it. There's bound to be someone in the right area looking for a career change or similar.

    Blinking Rutlands again

Credit to Rutlands - the order I placed with them on New Year's Eve arrived sometime today. Well, half of it, since a couple of items are out of stock... But, they were kind enough to add on the invoice that one will be dispatched in early February and the other, well, on the 28th December...

Oil finish for Oak (dinner trays)

Chestnut produce their own Food Safe finish, which you can buy from Axminster among several other retailers. I've also been told that tung oil is rated as food-safe although, it does seem to darken (orange) lighter timbers considerably more than some oils.

Good idea, I like it. :-)

    Alternative Planer?

If Axminster aren't prepared to sell it to you at the former price then, I think you're best bet would be to look for a used model on eBay. They've been appearing quite frequently lately; it's mostly of question of where they are in relation to your location. In the For Sale forum, there was a...

Dakota (Qiangsheng) Block Plane Mini Review

Hi Aled, good review. I've had one of their "Qiangsheng" planes for a few months now and it was a real bargain. Now though, I agree; spend the extra on the updated models from Workshop Heaven (I personally find the coarse adjustment a bit frustrating). One thing that has surprised me is that...
