Withdrawn Joseph Marples marking gauge. Rosewood?

Probably purchased in the 80's, but cannot guarantee as I have never used it, just come across it in a box taken out of storage. I never got on with pin gauges so has not been used but has been around for 40 years. No idea what it is worth. £30.00 plus postage at cost? Will be in the UK next...

I buy Wealden now but often wonder why Titman never gets a mention. I bought Titman for years and never had a problem.

Small diameter blades in table saw

That is what I would normally do but I would still have to buy a flat ground tooth. For box joints etc a wider blade would be far quicker. Because I would have to buy a flat ground blade and a 6mm blade will be far quicker. I would prefer a box joint blade but these are not readily available in...

Small diameter blades in table saw

Is there any reason why you couldn't use a 180mm grooving blade, say 6mm wide, in a large table saw like a Startrite that would normally take 10" or even 12" blades?

Cleaning up handles on Stanley type 15, 1931-32

I have just taken delivery of a Stanley type 15 5 1/2. I'd like to tidy up the handles. Can anybody tell me what sort of finish would have been used?

Axminster 2552 or Record Power BS350

I really like the Hammer N2 35 I purchased recently. Coupled with the right blades from Tuffsaws it has done everything I have asked it to. Unlike the bigger Hammer saws, It is not made at the Austrian factory, although the UK Hammer rep I spoke to said it was as far as he was concerned. Some...

    Sub £1000 Planer Thicknesser

I had a small Scheppach back in the 90's, excellent machine, rubber feed rollers and gave a better finish than my £3K -£4k SCM. Also very precise when thicknessing.

    Tung Oil

The way he was applying it was quite literally a spot on a rag burnished into a large surface area. No way would it not dry.

    Tung Oil

I have seen it reccommended used neat, but in tiny quantities, literally a drop on a cloth burnished on and several coats this way. I think it was in Finewooding.

Cutting a tight curve on a thick bit of wood, with a bandsaw.

I cut several 8cm thick, 13 cm wide discs in sweet chestnut using a Basa 1 which is about the smallest you can get. As everyone else has said, use a narrow blade with few teeth and take it slow.

    Plane fettling

Back in 1981 planes needed to be flat to British Standard is BS 3623:1981 Specification for Woodworkers’ Metal-Bodied Planes, .0015". I don't understand British Standards but I believe this has now been withdrawn, so maybe they don't need to be anymore.

    Question for a clockmaker

Several years ago I bought a job lot of Punkt AC01 bedside clocks, 6 in all I think. They were new and came with their boxes. Over the last six months, they have all failed. The last one was this morning. Is it not odd that they should all fail in such a short time? I think they now retail at...

    It is so annoying.

I see so much for sale in the UK and it is simply beyond my reach. Similarly, I may have items to sell, like my Multico benchtop morticer, and there is no market here. This is a typical example of a used machine in Italy. I have been looking for a nice old pillar drill and maybe a small solid...
